A TRAP
OF MY OWN
CREATIONS
Showing May 3 - May 30
NoName Gallery, Philadelphia
Charles Schulz once said (through his character Linus) that the price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it. Seasoned advertising creative, newfound artist, and reformed consumer Chris Carl spent his childhood absorbing TV and TV commercials. He was already a seasoned natural when he began his career creating ad campaigns for major brands like Volkswagen, Dos Equis, and Timberland. Caught in a trap of his own creations, he made a living of living outside his means, exchanging a more meaningful life for maxed out credit cards and taxed out relationships. Punctuated with a peering signature, conceptual sketches, and scratched down headlines, his paintings expose the scarred, isolated realities of this costly exchange. Each colorful abstraction comes fittingly guised under a glossy advertising veneer and is priced to move.
